Of course, Microsoft gets to charge us all over again for doing so.

For all I see, Windows 7 is just Vista already fixed.

However, at this point I believe that Vista's reputation is irreparable. And startup is faster and cleaner because many services and modules are deferred and continue to load after your desktop is ready. The philosophy is that RAM is cheap, so just go ahead and load everything instead of waiting until someone clicks on something. These two steps eliminate 99% of the aggravating stuffs that pops up anytime you try to organize anything.Īs far as the resources, yes, Vista uses a lot. Nuke UAC completely (Unsafe? XP had no such critter) and then change the permissions on the directory links such as "My Documents" (which just points to "Documents"). (If you are on a 64-bit machine, your game will probably install in ‘C:\Program Files (x86)\EA GAMES\The Sims 2’Ĥ.My personal experiences with Vista indicate that the suckage is fiixable, Microsoft just cannot get beyond the idea that they might have to actually admit a failure with UAC and change it, because they have clearly lost with their present posture of "training the users".Ī few small changes and Vista works a lot better. This will stop the packs from having to update once they are installed. Copy the files from inside the downloaded zip folder to ‘C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\The Sims 2’ and confirm to overwrite the files already there. Install the Sims 2 normally from either the CD or DVD version as an administrator.ģ. Download the file at the bottom of this post.Ģ. Choose the advanced option and remove the (x86) from the path:ġ. If you have Windows 64-bit and would like to use AnyGameStarter, you will need to make sure the game and packs are installed into the correct directory. All of my packs installed successfully, but I did make sure to install them in the correct order. Usually when you go to install the packs, you are stuck with the “The Sims 2 Update Error”, but this helps to get around that. I much prefer to install the game and all packs separately rather than use the ‘Ultimate Edition’ of the game.

I thought I’d post this here as it worked for me.
